Lightweight AC for easy removal and re-installation
I needed a removable window AC that is light weight because I live in Northern California which has a mild climate with only about 3 heat waves per year of 90 degrees plus temperatures lasting 3 days each. The spec stated 46 lbs but if feels lighter so I suspect the 46 lbs included the side accordian and top steel bracket which I did not need. I have a horizontal sliding window which can close off the sides of the window AC and I built a plywood cover to close off the top of the AC.Very happy with the performance because this 8000 BTU AC blows air that is ice cold. I had a Sharp 10,500 BTU rollaway AC and this Amazon Basic out-performs it...probably because the five inch exhaust tube gets hot which negate the extra 2500 BTU. There are controls at the front panel with the same functionality as your remote. This allows you to turn on the AC while you look for the missing remote.I have four minor complaints: (1) Setting the timer to turn off the AC after 3 hours is more difficult than it should be. (2) There is only one temperature display showing the set temperature so the AC will turn off at that set temperature. I wished it also had the room temperature reading as well. (3) There is a "follow" button which the manual does not explain what that "follow" button means. (4) The manual recommend that the AC should be placed in a shaded area for higher performance and the manual even suggest building an awning to avoid direct sunlight on the AC. This may applies to all window AC.The light weight, high performance and low price easily outweighs the four minor complaints. The power demand is 740 watts which cost me 23 cents per hour based on PG&E Tier 2 rate charge of 31 cents per kilowatt hour. I highly recommend this basic window AC. Please note I purchased this AC this year so I cannot comment on the long term reliability.

Great value
I bought this unit after the GE unit in my shop stopped working. I could not complain, it lasted over 10 years. I moved a unit from my bedroom to my shop for quick replacement as the temp in my shop was over 90+ degrees during the summer. I placed the unit in my bedroom, works great. Quite unit. I love the remote you can see the temp setting on even when you can't see the display on unit.

Cheap, effective, but a little loud.
It is exactly what it's described as - a basic window air conditioner. It wasn't hard to install, and it's doing a great job at what I bought it for - a supplement to my failing ancient central air unit. Before I bought this, on a 90 degree day, it was 82 in the house with the central on. Now it's around 76. I needed a cheap window unit that would get the job done until I can replace my central air unit, and mission accomplished! The only negative is that, like others have mentioned, it's loud, even for a window unit. But I'll deal with it to not have a sweltering house! Might get a second one for the upstairs!

Update 4 years later! Works Like A Charm! Great!
UPDATEI am still impressed and very satisfied. Purchased August 1, 2020. Just a few months ahead, and it will be 4 years old. My AC still runs like a champion. It sure makes me happy. I strongly recommend this to purchase.I have to give my Window Air Conditioner 8,000 btu a 5 Star Review. So far it has worked great, and cools my apartment. More than 300 sq ft. The noise level is good. Especially since window is only 5 feet from my tv, and my loss of hearing well. I am thrilled with my purchase. I am much happier, than with my 1 year old noisy Haier 12,000 window unit that I replaced with my new Amazon unit. It is great so far!

Works like a charm
We have been pleased so far, we placed this unit in our bedroom it is aprox 12 x 15 x 8' and it does a great job. It isn't too loud, you can hear it of course, but I have heard a lot louder ac units, we sleep fine with it running, and we can hear our TV when we are watching it.I can't say anything negative, and I am fairly picky.

No Outsie Mix/Vent (as pictured), horrible remote, always on "eco" mode...
The number one reason I purchased this AC is that it was pictured as having an outside vent / mix leaver that allows you to mix a small portion of fresh air with the recirculated air. The unit I received does NOT have this at all. Very disappointing. More problems: The remote trys to be "smart" with it own clock and settings that drift from the actual unit unless it's pointed right at it during changes (I've seen modern split-systems like this too, not a good design; much better to have a 'dumb' IR remote that makes changes instantly on the device itself. This also allows for universal remotes to program in IR changes too...). Also this AC, like so many nowadays, are trying to cheat their efficiency ratings by always starting in "eco" mode. Reminds me of Ford forcing new cars to always start in auto-shut-off mode so they can claim high mpg listings... it's bogus and nobody wants this.

Easy install - works but
8,000 btu unit Works well cooling and in different modes; butSounds loud, cycles frequently but the worse part is the booklet - not well written at all!The install went very - 1 person, reading the instructions - whoever wrote this needs serious help. Very confusing as to what does what and how it interacts. The remote battery cover falls off - fixed with tape.If not for the above - I would have given it a 5The remote no longer powers up - 1 year of operation it died. I took the battery out of it at the end of last season (2020) now 2021 - dead even with new batteries - no replacement to be found. This really sucks! Down to 3 stars

8000 btu cooling for 5000 btu price! Cant beat it
It wanted me to rate warmth for some reason. The unit is great. Just as good as any other 8000 btu system without the cost and its loaded with plenty of features. I've got it inside of a 40 foot travel trailer and it gets it down to 62 degrees on it's own while the sun is still out!
