Works well and turned my blue denim jacket black

This product was cheap and effective. I had a blue denim jacket that clashed too much with my outfits, so I wanted to dye it black. I bleached the jacket first to make it lighter in color, then went through the dye treatment and color fixative. The dye distributed evenly and is nice and dark. The color fixative made the rinsing process very fast and I am very happy with the results.I used a clean 5 gallon bucket from the hardware store to do the treatment and followed the directions and had great results. Note that the dye will not work on any polyester thread, so the thread on my jacket stayed a different color which I actually really like the look of.

EDIT of my previous "disappointed" post!

I tried the product again and realized that I had misunderstood the description. I thought it would dye my old blue jeans black and was disappointed when it didn't. However; I tried it again and it worked beautifully for renewing my old black jeans and refreshing my dark rinse Levis. I used it in my washer and followed the online instructions. Excellent Rye quality I've always been pleased with.

Works perfectly!!!

I was feeling so down this morning because I was doing my laundry, and suddenly, my favorite skirt (one I’ve had for over four years) ended up with a nasty chlorine stain. I was devastated, as this skirt is a staple in my wardrobe! Desperate to salvage it, I searched for a dye kit with same-day delivery, and thankfully, I found this one.Even though I read that it might not work on chlorine stains, I decided to give it a shot. To my surprise, it worked perfectly! After following the instructions and letting the dye set, my skirt looked almost brand new in just about an hour. I’m beyond thrilled with the results—no more stain, and my beloved skirt is back to looking great. Highly recommend this for anyone facing a similar laundry disaster!

Inconvenient but works wonders

Photo: My old black shirts were starting become this gross heather-grey shirt. If I wanted grey shirts I wouldn't've bought black shirts to begin with! After dying them, they become a brilliant black, about as black as my speaker, hat, jacket, other black items around the house. In person the black is even more noticeable, so I'm pleased. (that shirt on the left I forgot to dye lol, it was in the hamper)So I pulled out a plastic tub and filled it with hottest tap water (55 C), and let 5 shirts per batch soak in that with a tsp of dish soap and half a bottle of the dye for an hour(max time listed on instructions). I turned the shirts over every 10 mins. I also left a plastic tub lid on so it kept temp high. Did the post care instructions and they turned out pretty good! I'll defo be using this again in a few years when they start fading again! It's inconvenient to do it in a plastic tub, so next time I'll be doing it the actual bath tub, and I'll process all my shirts at once. The instructions say maximum of 2 adult t-shirts per half bottle, but I did 5 and they came out great. But my shirts started grey, so that is a factor. Black t-shirt is my everyday wear, so I want to look good. Cheaper than buying new shirts for sure.

Takes Time and A LOT of Water

If I knew how much effort dyeing my pants would take, and how much water I would need to use, I may have continued wearing my faded black pants as is. The idea of re-using old clothing is nice, but instead of dyeing, it's more economical and environmentally friendly to let the clothing fade and keep wearing it. I would only recommend using this product on clothing that is irreplaceable. For something like my pants, which are already around 7 years old, I could buy another pair for $50-$100 and keep wearing the faded ones at home or when working outside. Clothing that is faded is often worn in other ways too and may not last much longer after being dyed.I used the bucket method for dying the cotton pants. 60 minute soak in hot water with salt, small squirt of dish soap, plus the full bottle of dye. The instructions say to stir "consistently" so I set a timer to move the pants around in the dye every 10 minutes. Then another 20 minutes in the color fix with more hot water, stirring every 5 minutes. Then hand washed in another bucket with laundry detergent. Lastly, I repeatedly filled and emptied two 5 gallon buckets of water, trying to rinse the pants. The instructions say to rinse until the water begins to be clear. My rinse water was black every time I poured it out. Eventually I got tired of squeezing water out of the pants over and over and put them in my washing machine for one last double rinse. At this point I must have used at least 30 gallons of water, a lot of that being hot water, and still the pants left behind black dye in the washing machine after two rinse cycles. The pants now look very black and like-new. But due to the cost of the product, the cost of heating gallons and gallons of water, the cost of using many more gallons of cold water, and the roughly two hours I spent on this plus all the cleanup time, I don't know if I would do this again.

Metallica would use it!!

Followed instructions on box for gallon bucket recipe (I always keep a Home Depot 5 gallon bucket around the house for projects just like this) filled it with the hottest water from tap, dumped half the bottle of rit dye into the hot water along with a cup of salt and a splash of dawn! Submerged my charcoal grey jeans and some very faded sweat pants into the bucket. Stirred for a bit just to make sure everything was getting good and equally distributed, left it for 25 minutes and then followed up with the other bottle in the same fashion. 25 minutes in that solution and a toss in the washer after that and my items are BRAND FREAKING NEW! Seriously the coolest thing ever to see your clothes get a complete refresher!! My favorite sweats just got another breath of life! Rit is my new exciting hobby I can tell!! Looking for things to dye now.
