This thing is FABULOUS, but there are some things to know about it. A big one is that the packaging contains no indication that it can be cleaned. In fact it can be cleaned easily, by gently twisting the pump, pulling it out of the disk, and removing the grill from the pump by prying with a small screwdriver. Doing this lets you remove gunk from the grill, and wash a foam filter that's behind the grill. It does gunk up, if you don't clean it, and I'm sure that explains some less happy reviews. I find using it without any nozzle (different ones are supplied) means that it keeps working even in lower light. Mine keeps working with no direct sun, though it does slow down.

Definitely a little bit of a learning curve here. So first of all, the fountain is solar powered- This does NOT mean that it charges in the sun and then works till the charge runs out-- it means it is ONLY ON when the SUN IS OUT. Overcast days, it sputters. So I do think it works great for what I need it for (decoration in a flower pot on my front porch) but I understand it wouldn't be ideal for some other applications, or if you wanted to put it in a slightly shady area. The water flow options are very good, however, if it's windy out and you are using a tall spraying nozzle, the water can be removed pretty quickly- I came back to my home about 3 hours later and all the water was out of my medium sized pot! The fountain feels durable and well-made, and I love the fact that where the water is suctioned, there is a filter that seems to work well.

I'm fairly certain that hummingbirds can readily identify these black discs bc one was buzzing two ft away from me as I was setting it in our bird bath. This little solar powered fountain is quite powerful. They use our bird bath now all the time. It helps if you use a more shallow bird bath if you're specifically trying to attract hummingbirds. Also, they like surfaces that aren't slick. Our bath is cement. I LOVE this product!!Bc our bird bath is shallow, I ended up placing this solar powered disc into a deeper bowl w a small diameter and set that bowl in the bath. That way, I'm not refilling the water several times a day.

Nice fountain, but it needs an automatic shut off, for when the water gets low. Works well but I had it in a shallow bird bath and one hot windy day I had to run into town and the water got low. No more fountain.

If using a shallow type dish to put the fountain in, and you have one of the nozzles that sprays it high into the air, it doesn’t take any time at all before the water is gone, and you might burn the motor out. And if you do a really deep dish or container, then you must put some rocks in it for the birds to stand on to get a drink. Of course, if you’re putting it in a little pond, that’s not gonna be a problem. It has attracted mini birds. I have it up on a small table to keep other animals away so on the ground, I put another container with water for those critters.

Simply outstanding performance! I bought a 21 inch diameter bird bath. This fountain fits easily inside of that and along with the spacers it comes with, it stays in the middle of the bowl perfectly. Comes with an asst of nozzles with different spray patterns. Ended up having to use the bubbler style due to the wind blowing the spray from the other types nozzles out of the bowl. For a small pump, this pumps the water surprisingly high! Between 1-2 feet high! Only works in DIRECT SUNLIGHT! Clouds or shade will cut spray down to a bubbler type flow. Well made and should last for quite some time. Would highly recommend!

The fountain was easy to put together, and it worked well when the Sun was shining. It did not work in the shade. My only complaint is one of the little white plastic pieces btoke

This item functions well in constant sun. U can also add different enclosed attachments for different types of sprays and heights. I chose the one which kept the water going back into the basin so I wouldn't have to keep refilling the water.
