Returned

This was received but had to be returned. It was improperly coiled when packaging and actually had bends in the string upon opening. It seemed to have been a previously returned string.

All I've ever used

I've used Dominant strings for years. To be perfectly honest, I've never tried other brands, as these were the ones I learned to play on, and why mess with a good thing? So I don't have much to compare to. Still, they are bright and resonant, with a good feel to them on your fingers.

Yikes.

That was the first word that came to mind after stringing up the Dominants.I got the Dominants for the top end of my cello seeing how much violinists rave about them. Figured I'd take a chance and buy them instead of the larsens I usually get (the Dominants are cheaper anyway), keeping the chrome spirocores on the bottom. I gotta say, these strings are interesting to say the least.I know from the synthetic strings I use on my violin that synthetics feel like they will snap when bringing them up to tension, and these are no exception. It's a hair raising experience every time, especially with the A.I can see why violinists like these strings now, they make my cello sound like a violin. They offer incredible projection and are alive with harmonics and overtones at even the slightest touch, but impart a metallic and slightly nasal quality to the cello. Works well in the upper register and offers a bit better blend with the violas, but you will have to watch you're not sticking out in the section. The blend with the spirocores was actually surprisingly good on the D. I may try reverting back to the Larsen A but keeping the Dominant D, it might just work.If I was going to be playing a concerto with an orchestra, I think I'd actually go with these over the larsens just because of the power and the color of sound they produce to better stand out and be heard (the opening of the Elgar concerto would sound amazing on these). For ensemble work though you're better off with a steel core string. As much as I love the stability and power of the synthetics, that sharp, piercing quality of sound (especially on the A) just doesn't sit too well in a section.Overall I'm not happy, but I'm not disappointed. It's a fairly cheap string so it's not like I'm out a lot of money, but at the same time I feel like I should have maybe stuck with the larsens or payed a bit more and tried the Belcantos.NOTE: be advised, the perlon core is very stretchy, and the chrome winding won't sit snug on the string, so the A will likely develop some small gaps in the spiraling. Haven't had problems so far, but I'm just waiting for the day the winding comes loose and slices through my finger.

Wrong String

Ordered an A string after my sister's string broke and received it in time for an important rehearsal. However, we found that we got a D string, making it impossible for her practice with us. Ended up having to buy an emergency string somewhere else.

I really thought the quality would be better for this price

Recently ordered this A string and I've had it for about a month and it's already broken. I really thought the quality would be better for this price.

It is too easy to break.

It is weak, and break in less than 2 months including a month of Christmas Break.
