DYI for only a handy man.
I’ve installed traditional split units before so I kind of know what I’m doing. I purchased this unit because I don’t have a vacuum pump and figured this would be easier, but it is more expensive than traditional units. The lines sets are super long for what I needed. I wish there was an option where you can select the length on Amazon. I have the extra length coiled behind the condenser. It’s packed neatly, but does look unprofessional to me. That said, it was fairly easy to install. And it works great! I use this to cool and heat my 800 sqft finished basement. I love the smart controls and wifi connectivity.

Best investment
We have an addition on our house and the MRCOOL unit is perfect for it. It handled the heat wave with no problems at all. Now I am waiting to see how it will handle in the winter. Installing it was straight forward, it got a bit complicated for me since I was running one of the lines 20feet up so I had to rent out 19foot lift. Electrical is pretty easy If you have any understanding of how home electrical work. But hire an electrician if you don’t want to deal with it. Overall we are happy with the unit and the install.

DO NOT BUY: Faulty component, nonexistent customer support, deceptive warranty
Updated review:DO NOT BUY THIS. Pay the extra fee for a professional installation. My unit was faulty from the factory and most HVAC technicians will REFUSE to service DIY equipment, leaving you up the creek without a paddle. MrCool's supposed "5 year warranty" doesn't actually cover any labor costs, leaving you to foot the bill to fix their mistakes (which could cost you $1000+ if you can even find someone willing to do the work). Their customer service is also very bad - it took me five attempts to even get a response from them. I repeat DO NOT BUY THIS. Get an LG or Mitsubishi unit installed by a local contractor who will be on the hook to keep it running. After working OK for two months or so, this unit suddenly stopped operating completely with a PC03 error code for low or high pressure warning. I have a set of refrigerant gauges and I checked it - the pressure was fine. I decided to contact MrCool. Their customer service is unacceptably bad, and I would not recommend this company for this reason. I have sent them several emails, none of which have ever been returned. I called them and their system said I could leave my number for a callback instead of waiting in line. I did that, they never called me back. I waited in the call queue twice only to get dumped to a voicemail when it was finally "my turn." On the third try I finally got a real person. She told me there was nothing they could do until I paid to have the unit diagnosed by a technician, at my own expense. So I took matters into my own hands and opened up the outdoor unit control panel, because it shows more detailed error codes. Despite zero instructions in the manual on how to access the control panel, I managed to figure it out, and discovered that the error was PC30, code for high pressure. Well, this was simply not possible since I had just checked it with the gauges. So i suspected the high pressure sensor may be on the fritz. After MORE disassembly I located the pressure switch, which is attached to the internal piping. I believe this switch was rubbing against the metal housing due to the way it was positioned, and that vibrations were causing it to trigger erroneously. Bending the switch slightly deeper into the unit and giving the pipe a light tap with a screwdriver handle seemed to fixed the issue for me. The PC30 code went away immediately and everything worked fine again.Update: The error code came back permanently and I paid an HVAC contractor out of pocket to diagnose the issue as a malfunctioning pressure switch. Of course as it is a DIY unit, they refused to service it. The MrCool warranty is a farce -- if you read the fine print, you'll see that they don't reimburse you for any service costs associated with the repair which makes the warranty completely worthless. HVAC repairs costs hundreds to thousands of dollars. A complete fraud if you ask me.Services these units requires substantial knowledge of how these systems work and considerable disassembly of the unit, as well as speciality tools that you simply will not have. And if you mess up anything with your piping, it will cost you several hundred dollars for someone to fix and recharge the unit for you - if you can even find someone willing to service a DIY unit (most service shops will refuse to work on it!). If you have an actual problem, MrCool will not be of much help, and at best they will mail you a part and leave you to pay hundreds or more to have it swapped out. Don't buy this unit unless you have HVAC experience and are VERY handy and comfortable doing complex repairs. Get an LG or mistubishi unit and have it installed by a pro - you'll have someone on the hook if your heat cuts out in the middle of winter who will actually show up to fix it.Original review:Have had this installed for a bit over a month. It had an error code when I first turned it on but that seems to have gone away with time, and it's working well heating my indoor patio room in the cold weather. Noise level of both units is just average - I've definitely had quieter systems in the past. But it's not terrible, just not as good as a high-end LG unit. Installation requires some tools and experience, so keep in mind you still need to be quite handy to install this correctly. I wouldn't recommend a novice attempt to install one of these.

may be difficult to attach to odd wall designs, 2x4 spacings
Installed with some difficulty in my walls. It was supposed to come pre-charged, but I had to add freon to it to make it work. More instructions on display codes would be extremely helpful

So far, so good.
Shipping was delayed a couple of days because we live in the middle of no-where. No fault of the supplier or Amazon. Recommend not moving furniture just because it says, "Arriving today by 8pm." Wait for it to arrive! The compressor box was damaged but the unit was not. The local delivery man would not take a tip! Except for running the 220, we did the install ourselves. The units are whisper quiet and the house is cooler than it has ever been. Hopefully this winter it will save us some propane too! It really is DIY...if you get stuck...the answer is somewhere on YouTube. Good luck! Pro tip...The hole saw, the power whip for the outside unit, and fuses for the disconnect are not included....$50, $25, $6.

Easy to install and works great
This was a much more affordable option for my family. My husband had no trouble installing and the electrician had it hooked up and running in less than 2 hours. Keeps the house warm. Looking forward to the cooling feature in summer!
