I bought mine 3 years ago (had to find it in my orders history to write a review!). We use it a lot - every Saturday morning - as a way to force us to take things slow. We also use it whenever we have guests and it’s always a great talking point for adults and kids! Best money I’ve ever spent on Amazon! You have to experiment a bit with the coffee you like but it works with all of them - of course there’s no pressure, so if you use freshly ground coffee, remember you’ll get more of an infusion than an extraction. I found that the best results are with good quality soluble coffee like Nescafé Azera or similar, but if you’re ok with more delicate coffee flavours, it’s absolutely fine with ground coffee too. I got rid of the canvas filter long ago and never bothered replacing it and it’s been absolutely fine without.If you want it to look shiny for a long time, make sure wash it up soon after use and dry it up with a clean towel - ours looks brand new and we’ve used it no less than 200 times.Re burning fuel, only use as much as you think you’ll need because it does evaporate over time when not in use. We once were away for about a month and nearly half the fuel content had gone! If you use it regularly, I wouldn’t worry too much as it doesn’t use too much fuel to get to boiling point.Finally, it does take quite some time for the water to boil - if you’re having a slow weekend morning the wait can be quite cathartic, but if you have guests and you want it to work a little faster, use a kettle to bring your water to about 60-70°C and you’ll save quite a few minutes!

Was bought as a Christmas gift for a coffee lover (though you can use tea). Its pure theatre and is fun to watch and looks good when used after a meal sitting on the table and boiling away. If you like big mugs of coffee, you will get anout 1 out of it. Otherwise for the polite wee cups you might serve friends over for a meeal you might get about 3 out of it. The recipient loves it and it has a place on the kitchen counter to displayed when not in use.Remember to read the instructions! Had a few seconds of bafflement when the coffee had been sucked back into the pot but then didnt come out when the wee tap was turned on. Then some basic physics came into our brains about a vacuum and we opened the top of the boiler and the it started to pour :-)

I love it, a great bit of fun. The machine is sturdy and well made. The only draw back is you need clearer instructions, possibly with pictures. In the photos for it, you cannot see the filter cloth over the filter, so misleading. I would recommend.

Overall a good purchase. But it is not exactly as per picture: (1) the ball counterweight is part plastic (instead of copper), marked "coffee" and looks a bit naff. (2) the copper colour is not antiqued, but was not bright and shiny either. Its OK. I suspect it's not copper, but just steel coloured to look like copper ? (3) the carry handle is an enclosed handle (not open hook). (4) base board looks like wood, but very shiny & smooth (possibly resin ??).Function: works very well. I have tended to "double boil" the coffee (to make a stronger cup). A very smooth coffee is achieved (I've been comparing it to my expresso machine & my moka pot using the same coffee powder for comparison). Able to make a coffee in say just over 5 mins - the wait & the theatre of the device is good !Appearance after a couple of weeks of use: the base of the boil pot looks permanently changed - but is normal & fine. Relatively easy to keep clean.
