Project Acryl It Acrylic Platter For Project Turntables

So we own a Project Debut Carbon (with Ortofon Silver cartridge & stylus) and were going to upgrade to the Esprit with Acryl It platter ans built in speed control but supplier couldn't source the colour we wanted and patience ran out so we ordered the Acryl It platter and Clamp It (thought record may slip when brushing it prior to playing it) we can live without the auto speed change as with the acrylic platter it's easier to see the spindle when replacing the platter after the belt move, it's lighter and no mat on top either to line up.We've been happy with the sound of the Debut Carbon (the Cork It mat was our first "upgrade" and we thought it added a bit compared to the felt mat) but had read reports of the improvement from the Acryl It platter but we were sceptical we'd hear it. Initially we played a 12" single back to back with original platter, Cork It mat and the new Clamp It and then the Acryl It platter and Clamp It - there is a difference, a positive difference but I'm not sure how to describe it - it sounds as though the bass is tighter/cleaner and more defined whilst the mid and higher notes/voices seem more defined within the music. We listen to music rather than the system but like it to sound good and this seems to have opened up the music making it easier and better to listen to. we've now played a few different records with the Acryl It and Clamp It combination and with each one the sound just seems more open and strangely easier to listen to, I'm not sure if that's because there's more detail or the sound is less cluttered (didn't think it was before but it seems more organised now) but either way I'm more than happy with the purchase. My wife's description of the change in sound is the music seems deeper, not tonally but more to listen to. It seems expensive compared to the original turntable but it is a major component and it has made a difference, oh and it looks nice on the turntable (ours is the matt black MSL Superfi addition hence the Silver cart ), so run this set up for a few months and then look at a bronze stylus in the silver cart :-) the slippery slope of upgrades

Ok, it's hard to believe that an acrylic platter will improve sound, eh? Well, I can say that it really does! In a small way, but every improvement makes a difference. Firstly, you do not have to place your record onto a mat, and that means that there is little or no static. Secondly, acrylic is acoustically dead, which means quiet parts of your record will be even quieter. For example, when I play Talk Talk's 'Spirit of Eden', the 'space between the notes' as the late Mark Hollis stated as so important, are even more silent - and that's what you want. So yes, it's worth it, although it's initially a bit pricey. I can't vouch for aesthetics - it's a platter, it looks ok.

This acrylic platter looks great and definitely makes a worthwhile improvement to the sound. I noticed the bass was a bit tighter and there was more detail overall. Being able to ditch felt or rubber record mats and place the record directly on the platter is an improvement

The media could not be loaded. Looks amazing especially with the newly released DSOTM Single Sided UV 50th anniversary on the deck ! Sounds amazing too video is picking up the background sound of my HD650'S it it's made such a difference less pops and crackles and made the dynamic range a lot better ! Would 100% recommend to anyone who hasn't got one yet !

This is an expensive up grade ,But the difference it makes to the appearance and of course the sound quality improvement is ground breaking ,every thing is so much more refined and clear well worth the money in my opinion , does it solve static problems i cant comment on that at the minute ,But i dont use a mat and have no slippage that has been mentioned .. its great love it xxAnother upgrade that is well worth doing is an isolation platform , and you can do this one on the cheap , i made mine from a granit black chopping board and bonded x 4 autophone rubber feet onto it and just sit the deck on it make sure its level and this will stop any feed back coming up through what ever you have the deck sat on in my case a cabinet on a wooden floor , its sounds naff but believe me it works and looks good and cost less than 20 bucks ...

I got this because it is lighter and I thought it looks cool. I am so glad I did because every time I used to lift a record to turn it over, the hairs on my arms stood up and there was a lot of crackling due to static. Most importantly for me, the static is gone. Apart from the static though, this platter is much easier to clean and stays clean for much longer. I thought it would slip, but it doesn't slip any more than others. You don't need a mat either. Static used to really get my dandruff up (I mean dander he he) but no more static and now crackle free records. I thought it was expensive at first but now I feel it is well worth the money.

It is hard to make a decent comparison with the sound on my own system as I have changed from an Ortofon Red to Blue and changed to a Project Tubebox at the same time. The main reason to change the the platter is similar to a number of other reviews. The static always seems to make the default bit of rag that comes with Debut Carbon stick to the record every time you lift it off the platter.This does seem to have reduced the static build up a little although it is obviously less obvious now.My only comments would clearly be the price. It seems expensive to me but then most things are expensive when you start to look at a semi decent vinyl set up.
