One more masterpiece
By the champion writer. Is knowledge of Art and artists is phenomenal. For an ignoramus like yours truly it makes it more interesting as we get to know how artists of yore thought. Mingled with this the narrative of Russia vs the rest, topical as it is, makes it so interesting. The twists and turns are absolutely a treat and the way the whole story is written makes it super reading. Always feel disappointed after finishing his book as it leaves one wanting for more. An encore!!

Another riveting read..Gabriel Allon masterclass
Another riveting read..Gabriel Allon masterclass. Set in the current times and resonates with the Western way of looking at the current conflict. Notwithstanding, very well written. Waiting for the next Allon novel.

Stale and pale Silva
Stale and saturated Silva and Allon. Too much of disjointed detail, too many undeveloped characters, confused Allon. Silva has made a mess of his master spy. Complete waste of money and time to read this disaster of a book

adoro a leitura
Adoro a série de livros do personagem Gabriel Allon, li todos. Sempre uma leitura que prende sem cair na mesmice de um personagem de uma série tão longa.

Gabriel Allon takes on modern day Russia.
I found this story a bit different, less art restoration and details of life in Venice and lots of of modern day Russia its problems the aspirations of its leader and what happens when a dictator is in power.America take note.Another well researched and written good read from Mr Silva.

Gabriel Allon Returns
This book is the latest in a long running series about Israeli spy Gabriel Allon. The book can be read as stand alone. But I recommend the entire series.Allon was an art student…the son of Holocaust survivors. His father was killed in the 1967 Six Day War. In the early 1970’s the Chief of Mossad recruited him as one of the team tasked with avenging the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre of Israeli athletes by hunting down and killing the perpetrators. He stays with Mossad. Over the years (in earlier books) he defends, among others, the Papacy, the British Government, the President of the United States, the Saudi Royal Family, and, of course Israel. He is a mortal enemy of Vladimir Putin. In spite if this track record, he is not a cartoonish, Rambo like super hero. He is very real, flawed, and human. Here, Allon has retired as Chief of Mossad. With the permission of the Italian government, he and his family live in Venice where he works under an assumed identity as an expert in and restorer of Renaissance era art treasures. In this installment, the Italian Carabinieri recruit Allon to assist with the investigation of the theft of an already stolen masterpiece and murder of its illicit owner. This leads to encounters with an accomplished female burglar/thief, a Danish (yes Danish) oil tycoon, Russian spies, Putin’s inner circle, the CIA, Danish and Finnish intelligence, and the war in Ukraine. The plot moves along quite nicely. The characters are well developed. I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say Allon is working to prevent a possible nuclear war.Several things set this series apart from the usual action adventure spy thriller.First, the characters. They are very real. Not caricatures.Next, the books are very well researched. Each story concerns a real world crisis. The author includes a detailed end note about each crisis. The descriptions of the locales are detailed, accurate, and very interesting. Each book contains, embedded in the plot, a pleasant tutorial about Renaissance art, the Great Masters, art restoration, and occasionally fraud and forgery.Allon is allowed to age. Now he is “in late middle age.” Actually, he’s really a fellow senior citizen. Still capable of some derring do. But not frozen in time. Finally, it’s kind of refreshing to find an Israeli as the hero. Aside from the author’s belief that western democracies are forces for good, the series is refreshingly free of politics.I’ve obviously enjoyed the series.

As sleek as ever
A story with many twists, tightly bound together by unexpected characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, although I have to confess that the current situation in Gaza has greatly changed the appeal of Israel.
