The pinnacle
This is, for me, Faulkner's greatest achievement. The counterpoint of the two complementary stories, with the rhythm of the flood and the arcs of the two stories, sometimes parallel and sometimes crossing over one another, is compelling. The quintessential Southern novelist has said much about humanity and life choices in a work that absorbs the reader and carries them along in a current stronger than the Mississippi.DO NOT, as some have suggested, read these two as separate works. They were, in fact, written together to be read together.

DO READ FAULKNER ... JUST NOT THIS ONE
Any list of great authors will include William Faulkner. For that reason alone, anyone with a serious interest in literature, should read something written by this author. Just not this one which was so below my radar that I'd never heard of it and picked it up out of curiosity. I didn't find its juxtaposition of two tales all that interesting, and its old-time writing style -- endless sentences and paragraphs of character stream-of-conscious -- isn't likely to appeal to any present-day reader used to a plot proceeding at a faster beginning-to-ending pace. I only hesitated in giving WILD PALMS less than three stars, because -- well -- Faulkner is, after all, Faulkner. I'd recommend anyone wanting to "dip his toes" into Faulkner's writing, to read, instead, his PYLON (upon which the movie "Tarnished Angels" is based). I remember enjoying my reading of that one.

You don’t have to pay $800 for modern library hardback of WF Wild Palms!
Finally found a copy after years of combing used bookstores. Mesmerizing writing.

Its ok
If you've never read Faulkner before, he's long winded and at times boring. This book could've and should've been much shorter.

Faulkner at his greatest.
Two seemingly unrelated narratives, enmeshed, but telling the same tale, that of genuine, unselfish love. Vivid imagery evoking perfectly the Delta region of Mississippi and of New Orleans. No Snopeses or other familiar Faulkner characters here, but an essential read for anyone who has chosen to explore this important American author.

Passion dissected
The scariest love story I've ever read. Faulkner's prose is difficult at first, but once you manage to enter his world of words, you become addicted. Wilde Palms is a book about passion, with echoes of Madame Bovary and Anna Karenina, set in the intoxicating, exuberant South. Unforgettable.

great novel
It's the first time I read Faulkner and I'm flabbergasted at how deflty he organized the structure of the text, how well developed his characters are and how poignant both stories are. He has also a unique style, made up of long, intercalated sentences; also, many parenthesis break up sentences in the middle, and divert the text to a different direction, then the author brings you back... It kinda gives you the feeling of spinning around and ending up on the same spot, however, your sight will be affected by the spinning. And that's all part of the game. I'm sure it is a must read for anyone who enjoys classics and good literature. Truly a masterpiece.

The heat of time
Somehow I had not read Faulkner except some short stories... But it had excellent credentials: So many writers talked about him, the Nobel prize. And they were right. The book has an incredible atmosphere and takes you back to a time of obscurantism in the XX century. The protagonists are lost in their love in a time that they see has no place for them. I don't want to give out more, though its safe to say that language is also a main character. I recommend it to any person who loves literature at its best.

Wild Palms Faulkner
The book is fine, the first part that is, but is not what the title says. 'The old man' is not in the volume. So, half of my order is missing....
