Exactly as pictured and described.A little bit pricey but remember you get what you pay for and this one's a sure bet. Works quite well sniffing out propane, sewer gas and even gases put off by decomposition.

Not for radon gas!
It works fine for sewer and natural gas. Thats all I have used it for. It saved me a lot of money and ended my health problems associated with leaks.

Horrible Operation Manual - So bad I returned the gas detector
The most incomplete and poorly written Operation Manual I have ever seen.It does not mention detection of propane, butane, H2, NH3 & alkanes as advertised on Amazon. How can a professional work with a gas detector and not know what gases are being monitored?Other examples of my disappointment: Reference Page 5, description of the “clear” and “save” functions makes no sense. Reference page 7, “method 1” description makes no sense. There is no explanation of how the external pump interface works or how to use it. That is not all, the more I tried to use the Operation Manual the more of this type of thing kept piling up.I tried to call Forensic’s customer service but there is no phone number in the Operator Manual even in the section titled Customer Support. I tried online to get an improved Owners Manual or other help but Forensic’s web site was not helpful.I returned the unit --- I will not waste more of my time working with such an extremely poor Operation Manual.

/ / / NOT FOR AMMONIA / / /
This would not detect ammonia and that I know is in the air. Perhaps, this reader is not sensitive enough, as is the case with many of these non-expert instruments.

Manual leaves a lot to be desired, but the unit does what it's supposed to.
First unit I received didn't seem to be working correctly. Reached out to Forensics to understand if I was using the unit incorrectly (the manual is translated from another language and isn't always clear). Turns out the first unit was defective. Forensics quickly sent me a replacement unit. Tested out the second unit and it worked as expected. Natural gas, butane, methane... within a second of being around these gases I had the new unit beeping/vibrating/lighting up.And despite the manual being what it is, after 10 minutes of playing with the 3 button interface, it was simple enough to figure out. All-in-all the unit does exactly what I bought it for. And kudos to Sarah at Forensics for her outstanding customer service.

Seems to be working
It didn't detect any combustible gas coming out of furnace vents, which would signal no issues, but it provided readings when I put it in natural gas water heater flue just to test it.

Great item and great customer service
This item helped me decide whether I had a sewer gas leak in my pipes. Plumber wanted more to come and check while this was cheaper I discovered the smell was from the dirty bucket from my robot vacuum since no sewer smells were found by the device. This item stopped powering on and the seller replaced it immediately! Great customer service!
