Money saver & knowledgeable book! I love a Vet & Human who cares about all patients enough to know not everyone has thousands for extremely overpriced vet care. I've spend $5000 & $4600 on emergencies for 2 dogs so I'm not cheap when it comes to my animals BUT I know it adds up & somethings you don't need a vet to do for you. I wish this vet all the best and thank them for caring about others & their pets. I can't say enough how great & full of info this little book is!

Transparency and honesty is hard to find these day whether medical care for human or animal.You know that feeling when you take your pet to the vet because they won't write a prescription for the ear infection without seeing them? and dollar signs light up in their eyes? and you walk away with a whole lot less money? and no prescription or answer about your furry family member's ear issue that you brought them in for but they found something totally unrelated to the issue at hand and would like to prescribe....Well this book will help you sort that out and your pet might live a whole lot longer and be happier not going to the vet. My dog tried to escape and I should have followed her clue. You will save more than the cost of this book for one visit. Thank you Dr. Busby!

This is a great book for pet owners. It really is like having my old vet around, he was just as down to earth and rational.The book is put together in a rather haphazard way, a bit less handy for reference, but I do think it's part of the charm. The book is written as if the old country vet is talking to you, in his own voice, sharing his experience and his wisdom.And lots of nice anecdotes. The book is a pleasure to read.The book itself is quite cheaply produced, cheap paper and print. But it's what's inside which counts. I am happy I brought it.

This book has saved us lots of money, and our pets some unnecessary trips to the vet. Of course we would never jeopardize our animals' safety and well-being, but living in a rural area requires us to know more about pet care and emergencies, than those who live in town with a vet just down the street.Dr. Busby tells you what you can do to treat your pets in very practical and effective ways; he also tells you when it's time to take them to the vet. In addition, you get the answers to your questions in a straightforward manner, without unnecessary embellishment. True, it is not an academic tome, but who needs that when they want to quickly find out how to help their pet.We've gotten our money back a hundred-fold, literally, because we have had this book as a reference. It makes a practical, truly useful gift for pet-loving friends as well. We have given it as birthday presents to two friends and they have been grateful to have it on more than one occasion. We also plan to give them as Christmas gifts this year, where appropriate.

This was well worth the money I spent. FINALLY, an honest small animal vet coming clean about things everyone should know. I have known about some of the things in this book for years, but it was great to finally have someone validate them so people won't look at me like I'm a kook when I tell them their animals don't need all these shots every year! PLEASE DR. BUSBY, WRITE SOMETHING LIKE THIS FOR HORSES AND POULTRY!!!Good reading, too, and some real eye openers here that will hopefully help keep your wallet shut. He gives you real advice about what to do and buy instead of just telling you what NOT to do. The advice on how to refuse spending on unnecessary things was helpful too.

Good for the non seeking person looking to help their dog

This book is an eye opener to the rip-offs of many of today's veterinarians who seem to be more skilled in marketing techniques than actual medical care. After reading this book, I can look back and now realize how many times I was "scammed" by some local veterinarians for unnecessary practices. Over the years, I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on veterinary care for my pets. Indeed, some of it was justified, but a LOT of it was not. If you are a pet owner, buy this book. It will save you money and will give you the knowledge necessary to just say "NO!" when your vet begins padding the bill with unnecessary charges and procedures. Sadly, many of today's "new" veterinarians are coming out of vet school being taught skills to scam their customers! Don't believe me? Then just google the words "veterinary ripoff the rubes" and you will see a website (terrierman) in which a columnist for "Veterinary Economics" gives a presentation to a veterinary conference in 2007 in which he "teaches" them about high $$ income for vet practices.Read some of the quotes he gives as advice to today's vets on how to get MORE money from the customer.Do NOT forgo veterinary care for your pet. Read this book and search the Internet for other ripoff scams of today's veterinarians. There are still some honest vets out there. Once you become more knowledgeable about today's veterinary scams, you will be able to find an HONEST and caring vet for your pet.

I bought this book as a gag gift. But after flipping through the book I bought another one for myself. This book was written by a vet. I read though some of the things I have taken OREO to the vet for this book was spot on. My Dog has thyroid problems, red mange, and it tells you how to do away with expensive Heartworm prevention. He tells you how to make a 15$ bottle of ivermection last as hearworm prevention for a 1.5-2 years instead of $15 PER MONTH. Read your HW prevention it has this indregdent in it regardless of brand. Flea prevention and how to get that super cheap with just a little effort. I completely recommend this book as an actual resource.
