are they ball end or tied?
Does anyone know why this is a 7 string pack with 2 g strings? i seem to like the gold g better (tighter than the clear g).
Why isn't the low E string not polished like the other basses?
Great, but why is the D so light? Have to spend another $6 on a harder single D string to make it work proportionately withe the normal tension.

The Strings I Have Been Seeking For Many Years.

Describing why we like a particular type of guitar strings is hard because the criterion is different for each person, guitar, playing style and stage of development of each musician. When I was young and played only electric, my choice of strings was easy - Ernie Ball Super Slinky! Years and many guitars later I discovered Elixir Poly Webs for my mahogany and Nano-webs for my cedar acoustic guitars. But, by far the most difficult strings to find have been those for classical guitars. Now, I have finally found a perfectly-balanced set, that minimize string-squeak, are easy and delightfully tactile for both fretting and playing hands, and exquisitely responsive to the slightest nuances of pressure and attack. My playing style requires very low action, but without any buzzing. I have to extensively work on the neck and frets myself to achieve this and am usually successful at these alterations, but I have no control over strings; they are as the come out of the package. Finally, after trying almost every manufacturer and type of classical strings I have found nirvana! These strings are easy to fret, no buzzing, easy to pluck, strum, glissando, bend, tap, and pick, all the while in perfect intonation and balance. in particular, the G string has been tamed by D'Addario's inclusion of a special type of nylon for this string. No longer do I have to struggle to tame the loudness of the G string; it is part of the team now, instead of the prima-donna it usually is. At the same time, my picking hand is delighted by the elasticity and touch; not too hard, not to soft, but responsive to every need. All praise to the D'Addario folks for answering my desire for the perfect strings. Will they be right for you? Only one way to know for sure...

These strings are the best.

These are the best things I've ever played.I ordered them expecting only to get strings that made less squeak noise. To my delight they are more than that.1. The tone from these strings is amazing, with beautiful, rich warm tones but not too dark.2. They feel great. Very smooth.3. Virtually no left hand squeak noise.4. With their gold/copper hue they look fairly good. They come with 2 G strings, a composite and a clear nylon. The composite is not bad but I prefer the clear nylon. The basses steal the show, but the trebles are very nice.I highly recommend these strings.

Good Strings I Guess - Can't Justify the Cost

I am new to nylon strings having just bought my first classical guitar from Kremona. It came with their own strings which sounded okay. I was not sure if they were newer or had been on the guitar while in storage so I decided to purchase a new set and went with these based on some reviews I read. Also because the set comes with two different G strings and the G string on my new guitar sounded a bit flat to me. When I installed the set I used the composite version and played it for a week or so then switched to the clear nylon one that came with the set. I ended up liking it a lot more than the composite one. Seemed more consistent, responsive and natural sounding to me.That said I am not overly impressed by the sound of these strings. I have never been a fan of D'Addario in general and do not use them on any of my steel string acoustics. They always seem to fall short to me. Again I don't have a lot to compare them too at this point outside of videos I watch of people playing acoustics and the sound they get using different model strings. Now had I gotten two sets of strings for $21, I might feel different about these strings. I simply can't justify the cost that is easily double the average cost of nylon strings.I am going to try some different models until I find the sound and responsiveness I am looking for, so it's not likely I will be able to judge their longevity. Again not knowing much about longevity of nylon strings.Taking all that into consideration I would go 3-1/2 stars to be honest, but give the nod to four. Still I would suggest experimenting with lower cost strings before making the leap to a $21 set.

Best Sounding when recording...

The only classical strings I ever use for recording. They have great tone and balance (at least to me, and I don't use the polymer G). The finger noise reduction is amazing, although I see that many folks up here complain about the variance in bass string color (it's a side-effect of the noise-reduction polishing process). Those people should just buy the cheaper EJ45s, which have pretty silver bass strings. In the studio I could care less if my bass strings look pretty, I care about how they record.

Love these, the LP finish is wonderful

Really makes a difference with the lightly-polished finish. Long lasting, I've used these for 6 months with 1-2 hrs of daily playing.. Wipe them clean when finished, they last. Intonation great. Really lowers the noise when sliding up the E,A,D bass strings. Came with an alternate polymer G string which I have not tried. Love these. My teacher uses the high tension set I gave him and is also very impressed. One thing; the wound D looks slightly different in color than wound E and A, but I think this is an artifact of the process and the smaller dameter. Sounds awesome on my Yamaha CG131SF.

Only One I Use

Works great with my Taylor Mraz model--helps minimize finger squeak. Also happy with the tone from the strings as opposed to other D'Addario nylon strings I've used before. I use this one to replace my strings every 3-4 months.

Poor silver coating

Sound great but the silver coating is nonexistent on 1 of the strings and very sloppy on the others. Terrible quality control. They looked old and tarnished out of the package. A day after using them they turned brown.

Not for me!

These strings are polished to a degree that the silver coating is nearly all gone. The d-string looks like a copper telephone wire. It affects the sound and feel of play in a way that makes them unusable. Innovation is great, but they are trying way too hard with this particular item. However, D'Addario's customer service was great and they are helping me find a better set.
