The lid is hinged -- not separate so it is stays with the pins, rather than getting lost on the work surface. Penetrates fabric very well. I wanted the heads to be spring colors, and there are lots of spring colors in the mix.

Good deal, for the price. Expect to throw away some of the pins due to dull tips. I threw away about 1/10 pins. Do not recommend using on fragile fabric.

These pins are very sturdy. I like the length, perfect for sewing and quilting. Very sharp, they go through the fabric like butter, and maybe most importantly the price was very reasonable.

I have ordered many straight pins but they always had such small heads. Difficult to use. These however have huge heads and I love them! So glad I found them!!
