Clear authentic sound reproduction
There are no downsides to this Shure microphone from an acoustic guitarist/singer point of view. The reproduction is crystal clear with no distortion or effects, which can be easily obtained through the amp if that is what you want. I'm looking for faithful sound reproduction, and that is what you get with the iconic SM58. This one has an on/off switch which I thought would be really useful, but in reality I usually forget it is there and so I forget to use it! Buy this mic if you want a no nonsense bit of kit that is sturdy and well made.

A WINNER MICROPHONE
I had been using the fantastic AKG D5 for about six months before deciding to get this Shure SM58s as the extra. Everybody talks about the SM58 and I wanted to check it out.The SM58 is now used regularly. The AKG D5 still competes and perhaps wins on smoothness and heaviness of sound, but the SM58 edges forward on clarity and accuracy. Both are musical, powerful and rugged, but of the two the Shure SM58 is smaller in size and is much more resistant to feedback.Ultimately, it is a matter of personal preference. I have SM58 days and D5 days and I use both when singing and recording. But if push comes to shove, and taking everything into consideration including the big price difference, it would be difficult but I would probably pick the AKG D5 as the overall winner. If price was not an issue, then I would declare the Shure SM58 the winner, mainly for its clarity and feedback resisting advantage. This particular Shure model comes with an on/off switch. Unless you feel you really need that switch, you can buy the same microphone without a switch at a lower price. This is a serious microphone, and you'll love it. Recommended.

Great all-rounder but a lot of bass
there is a reason these mics are so iconic and it's because theyre such a good all-rounded. for me personally though i feel it makes my voice sound too bassy and i mainly use it for singing, so will likely get a warmer-sounding mic in the future. for the price point it is great and if you just need a generic mic this is probably one of your best options

Clarity
If you want clarity from your vocals the SM58 cuts through with incredible definition. It completely changed my performance the first gig I used it. Construction is what you would expect from the world's leading mic brand. No cut corners or iffy build, just rock solid. I bought the switched version which I find useful and the switch will probably last 100 years! On top of all this, it's great when you can see the top names in the music industry using the same mic as you and the appearance is so distinctive, there's no mistaking the Shure SM58.

Great professional sounding mic
This is such a great product, easily one of the best investments I've ever made. It is very well built and has a nice weight to it. The mic seems very durable and built to last. For the price it's a great buy, after all it is the industry standard. Great for live performance and sounds great for recording with too. The mic comes with a nice carry case and mic clip to attach to the stand. It is definitely worth pay a little extra for the switch as it gives you that bit of control when performing live when you may need to switch the mic off without messing around with controls or unplugging it. The mic has a really nice matte finish and it a very smart and sleek design. It is also great that this mic does not need phantom power to work which means it is much more volatile than other mics that rely on phantom power. Overall this is a really great product and I'd recommend it to anyone, it's affordable and will last for a very long time, don't be fooled in to buying cheap imitations, pay that little bit extra and get yourself a long lasting professional mic.
