MoondropDawn Pro Portable USB DAC/AMP Dual CS43131 DAC 32Bit/384kHz DSD256 Decoder Headphone Amplifier

I’ve been using it since I bought it. Does what it says on the product description. You need to know how to use other OSes to change some settings if you’re only using Apple devices. Not an issue for me, but could be a problem for others. With the right headphones, speakers, etc. I think it is well worth the price. Haven’t bothered with the balanced output as of now. It sounds just fine with the standard 1/8” (3.5mm) jack to my ears. So far its build quality is pretty decent and it is very portable. The long press functionality for frequency filters is not always noticeable… but that’s what equalization is for. I don’t seem to use EQ very much with it, but we all have different tastes and process sound differently. I’m digging the “ChiFi” products which I have purchased. Pairs well with the MoonDrop Blessing 3 IEMs. As the saying goes, “Your mileage may vary.” No bluetooth connectivity, and if that’s a problem, you’re probably not the intended audience.

A fantastic performing device, rich in detail and clarity for IEMs as well as low impedance full size headphones. Very cool look and design with lights under the machined holes that indicate playback quality. The only problem is quality control. My original unit rattled and eventually shorted or something and would no longer function so I had to painstakingly return for a different unit. This unit has no rattle I've used it about 250 hours no problem. Joshua Valor of YouTube audiophile fame reviewed a unit with a rattle but praised it for how amazing it sounds for the price point. He only docked it for the rattle which isn't supposed to be there I realized after receiving my second unit. There's a big quality control issue here and many rattling defective units are being sent out to customers. But if you can get a proper unit without the defect this beats every other dac/Amp dongle I've ever tried, punching way above its weight class. Just if you order one be prepared for an arduous return process if your unit is one of the defective ones. Were it not for this problem I'd given it 5 stars.

Great value, it's not too big and is way better than a standard usb-c to 3.5mm dongle. I find the audio quality is great for the price, and it balances out my Camp Fire Audio IEMs that are a little boomy for my taste. I enjoy this to my similarly sized Spectra X2.

A great budget dongle DAC if you need balanced. Good sound with everything I've tried, and probably my favorite way to listen to the Sennheiser x Drop HD 6XX (using a cheap balanced cable from Amazon).

I bought this because I had moved my PC away from my desk, and use a USB C dock. Everything works great until I plug in this DAC. Not only does it limit support to the lowest quality setting (and a flashing red light... yes it gets distracting quick), there are constant, irregularly timed drop-outs that disrupt my connection to the PC. Remove the MoonDrop, problems go away. Reached out the the manufacturer, who said that I must have a defective unit, and despite the fact that they have drivers and a Firmware update listed specifically for this device (the firmware software can't detect it either). So I ordered a replacement, and exact same issues. So if you are using this on a Phone, I guess it will be good, but DO NOT buy this for PC. Computer support is terrible.

Great little device, plenty of power even for higher impedance headphones. I'd say it's limit is probably anything planar, although with a balanced cable it might even be capable of that. One thing to note is that you shouldn't let it dangle from the included cable, as this will damage the cable over time. Best to leave it in your pocket with your phone if possible.

Pros: Sounds amazing and convenient to useCons: I've had one unit where the volume buttons physically fell inside of the unit. After they sent out a new one, it was dead on arrival. Build quality is also sub-par with the PCB, buttons, and ports moving and rattling in the casing.UPDATE: Originally 2-Stars, now 1-Star.After contacting the retailer, I was sent a new unit. On arrival, the unit was dead and did not work on any other devices no matter what combination of headphone, earbud, speaker, or USB cable. It was dead on arrival. What really sealed the deal was that they only offered a 50% refund. Likely the last Moondrop product I purchase is Shenzhenaudio represents them like this.

I bought this because my laptop's audio jack is very noisy and doesn't get near acceptable volume, and I also wanted something small and portable to connect my new Letshuoer S12 Pro IEMs to my smartphone (RIP headphone jacks on smartphones). The Dawn Pro really showcases what the S12 Pros as well as my Philips SHP9500 headphones can do, and I am sure even more powerful cans would work well on these. I went from not being able to get my IEMs and headphones to an acceptable volume to not being able to reach max volume without blowing my ears out or possibly ruining the drivers of my IEMs. I have tested it on Windows, Linux, and Android systems with no issues apart from in Windows, which leads to one of the first downsides:Under Windows, If you need ASIO, the driver that Moondrop provides on their website introduces cut-outs in the audio for a few seconds at a time. Nothing seems to resolve this issue until finally uninstalling the driver. If you don't need ASIO, don't bother with the driver, as the Dawn Pro works fully without it, and there is no issues with the Dawn Pro when the driver is uninstalled.Changing the gain is a little annoying. You require the Moondrop Link app in order to change it. For me, the gain was on by default. There also seems to be a bug with Moondrop Link and USB Audio Player Pro that causes the Moondrop Link app to stop working while USB Audio Player Pro is using the DAC.I think the volume buttons could have been done better, and maybe even a gain toggle could have been added, but the buttons are serviceable.All in all, i think the Moondrop Dawn Pro is well worth the asking price if you can get over those two issues.
