Good for light duty

First things first: Don't buy this if you are planning on trying to lift, pry, or spread apart anything lighter than a few ounces. It will work fine for what I bought it for, which is positioning small objects in front of my camera while doing macro photography. I bought this because it was about the least expensive one I could find, and I don't plan on using it daily. The top and bottom plate are very thin stainless steel. The corners are rounded and the edges are smooth enough to run my fingers along them without getting cut. The knob is cast plastic, and a little small for my large hands, but adequate. Everything else is Zinc coated steel. The adjusting threads seem to be standard course threading, so micro-fine movements will be difficult. The bearing ends of the axles are just ground-off threads on the ends riding in slots cut in the spot-welded angles. If you use this a lot, under moderate to heavy loads, you are sure to wear a groove in the axle ends. There is no lubrication on anything, which is fine with me, that way it won't stain anything right out of the box. There are four rubber stick-on pads on the bottom. With all that said, I give it five stars since I paid less than twenty dollars delivered to my door! I won't use it with heavy loads and I won't be using it every day. I'll add some clean lubricant (light sewing machine grease?) to the wear points, and I will have it in the middle of it's travel most of the time. Other, higher quality (and more EXPENSIVE) units would be a waste of my money.

Rifle rest

Using as an adjustable rear rifle rest. Glued some foam to top to make anti slip. Works good and stable.

Elevating

Arrived on time and in good condition. The lab jack is heavier than I thought it would be. It appears quite well made and sturdy and it has quite smooth up/down operation. However, it is a little smaller than I thought it would be [4 inch x 4 inch stand]; and, I doubt that it can handle heavy loads. Nevertheless, for my needs, I am very satisfied with my purchase.

The laboratory lifting jack, it holds my...

This review is best read to the tune of "The Grand Old Duke of York"The laboratory lifting jack, it holds my specimen. It lifts it up to the top of it's will. And lowers it down again. And when it is up, it is up.And when it is down, it is down. When it is only half way up, it is neither up nor down.Sorry, I couldn't help myself.Seriously though...This lab lift is well designed, works well, holds where it's set. Tight enough to hold, but not enough to hinder smooth action.I use it in my macro studio to lift my specimen stage for positioning the subject in front of the lens.

Great for rear shooting bag

Great item for the money! I use it under my rear shooting bag to make micro adjustments. It arrived quickly and the quality is pretty good for the price point. I wish the knob was slightly larger to give more leverage under load. All in all very pleased.

Great little jack

I have an old router that is installed in a cheap router table. It has proven difficult to raise the router bit to the desired height because when I loosen the locking bolt the router drops down and I lose its last height setting. I am now placing the jack under the router so that it does not drop when I loosen the locking bolt. I can use the jack to raise the router in small increments from its last height position. I like the jack.

Vaporizer assembly

I have this lab jack going up and down to get the herb holder of this vaporizer into and out of battery. Every time we want to load/unload the contents of the herb changer this lab jack going up and down almost its entire travel. It has so far probably done this cycle 200 or 300 times, and so far everything is still smoothly functioning. Will update in a few months. And if anyone is curious, that is an Aromed Vaporizer... it is a 1 of a kind herb vaporizing system. Noone else has ever made anything like it.UPDATEI have gmhad this setup for several months, and would like to write an update to tue review. The Lan jack has probably run its travel 1000 times at this point, and I have started to feel the wear and tear. This lab jack was not designed to go up and down 100 thousand of times. It has developed slack in the mechanism. Originally the design was to run the travel every time it needed loading and unloading, but it is well on its way to wearing out. Since starting to see the slack, I have changed the design of my system. Now, I set the lab jack to work with the position of the goose neck. To go from loading mode to operating mode, now I have a spacer. I am going to try and attach a photo of this new setup
